at Placard Sheffield 2011

Ok, so I recently performed at Sheffield Placard 2011, a headphone festival hosted by Alex McLean and the excellent folks at Access Space, an open technology center unique on its own merits. Over the past few years, he has hosted several such, being inspired by the original le Placard festivals which originated in Paris. The atmosphere, the participation, and people were great, and I hope they will continue to host them in the future (special thanks to Alex for making it all happen!).

Alex kicked off the festival around noon with some binaural films. For me, some of the most memorable performances were:

For my contribution, I gave a simple livecoding set using Supercollider, starting from this stub file with a simplified version of the Promenade from Pictures at an exhibition (which I used in other recent projects). As a backdrop I used a recent Barcelona field recording I did as part of the Hertziosfera-Sounds of Gracia workshop.

I think it turned out alright, though the recording is a bit clipped. The most interesting parts are the last 5-10 minutes. Enjoy:
